Color matching of 24-core optical cable

A 24-core optical fiber cable uses the standard 12-color sequence twice, with the second set typically marked with a stripe or other identifier to distinguish fibers 13–24.

Standard Color Sequence

According to the TIA-598-C standard, the 12-color sequence for individual fibers is: Blue, Orange, Green, Brown, Slate (Gray), White, Red, Black, Yellow, Violet, Rose (Pink), Aqua (Light Blue). For a 24-core cable, this sequence is applied twice: the first 12 fibers follow the standard order, and the next 12 fibers (fibers 13–24) repeat the same colors but are usually marked with a contrasting stripe or other identifier to differentiate them from the first set. Example of 24-Core Fiber ArrangementFibers 1–12: Blue, Orange, Green, Brown, Slate, White, Red, Black, Yellow, Violet, Rose, AquaFibers 13–24: Blue with stripe, Orange with stripe, Green with stripe, Brown with stripe, Slate with stripe, White with stripe, Red with stripe, Black with stripe, Yellow with stripe, Violet with stripe, Rose with stripe, Aqua with stripe Tube and Fiber GroupingIn many 24-core cables, fibers are organized into two 12-fiber bundles or tubes.

Each tube may have a colored outer tube (e.g., Blue for the first 12 fibers, Orange for the second 12 fibers) to help technicians quickly identify the group, while the individual fibers inside follow the 12-color sequence. This system ensures easy identification, reduces miswiring, and simplifies splicing or maintenance.

Practical Notes

Outer Jacket Color: Often indicates the cable type (e.g., Yellow for single-mode, Orange for multimode) and is separate from the internal fiber color coding. Connector and Boot Colors: May also follow TIA-598-C conventions to indicate fiber type and polish, aiding in proper connections.

High-

Density Cables: For cables exceeding 12 fibers, the stripe or tube color ensures each fiber remains uniquely identifiable, even in 24, 48, or 144-core cables. By following this standardized color coding, technicians can quickly locate and identify any fiber in a 24-core cable, ensuring accurate installation and maintenance.
