Revit cable tray adjustment

In Revit, cable tray options can be modified through the Modify | Cable Trays tab, the Options Bar, and by editing type properties, though some parameters like side rail thickness in straight runs may require workarounds.Editing Cable Tray Segments

To modify a cable tray segment or run:

  • Select the cable tray in your view.
  • Use the Modify | Cable Trays tab to access commands such as move, extend, or connect segments.
  • On the Options Bar, you can adjust parameters like width, height, offset, and bend radius for the selected tray segment .
  • Drag the control handles to reposition the tray or connect it to another segment .
Adjusting Type Properties
  • Click Edit Type to modify type-specific parameters such as bend radius multiplier and tray dimensions.
  • You can choose between cable tray with fittings or without fittings.
  • If fittings are not loaded, go to Cable Tray Fitting, then Load Family, and select the desired fittings for your project .
Limitations and Workarounds
  • Some parameters, like the thickness of ladder cable tray side rails in straight runs, are not directly editable in Revit. While fittings allow thickness adjustments, straight runs do not provide a built-in parameter for side rail thickness .
  • Workarounds include:
    • Using detail views or keynotes to indicate material thickness for presentation purposes.
    • Creating a custom family for straight runs if the model needs to reflect specific side rail dimensions.
Best Practices
  • Always load the necessary fittings before running cable trays to ensure proper connectivity.
  • Use type properties to maintain consistency across multiple tray runs.
  • For client presentations, consider annotating or detailing parameters that cannot be modified directly in the model. By combining segment modification, type property editing, and family management, you can effectively control most aspects of cable tray design in Revit, while acknowledging certain limitations that may require creative solutions .
